Mist at Cornwallis Cave

Cornwallis Cave is located near the waterfront in Yorktown, Virginia. It is believed that Lord Cornwallis moved his headquarters to this cave for a brief period of time before the British surrender. Also, during the Siege of Yorktown, the townspeople took shelter under these bluffs. Today, the entrance to the
cave is blocked off with a steel cage to preserve the interior of this historic location. As with many locations previously plagued with war and bloodshed, there have been many sightings of apparitions and other paranormal activity at this cave. One man reported taking a picture into the cave and capturing a transparent image of a person standing inside the cave, reaching towards him as if to ask for a helping hand. There have also been sightings of Lord Cornwallis himself in and around this area, possibly still planning his strategy to take Yorktown from the patriots, unaware that he is only an echo in time.
mist floating towards the cave
Back in December 2013, a team of investigators from Virginia Paranormal Investigations along with a medium went out to visit the cave. As the investigators took pictures, the medium reacted to a strange mist floating towards the cave. She reported that the mist entered the cave and floated up through the top. Though the mist was invisible to the naked eye of the investigators, their pictures revealed the anomaly as shown to the left. No one knows what the mist was, however, the medium believes it's the spirit of a soldier from long ago, lingering behind to guard something of value. Does Cornwallis haunt this cave? Do spirits remain beneath these bluffs trapped in time? These are the questions that we seek the answers to. We are open to the possibility and continue to visit locations like this in hopes of catching a glimpse into history.
